What is a Phlebotomy Technician?
A Phlebotomy Technician is a vital member of the medical laboratory team whose primary function is the collection of blood samples from patients by venipuncture or skin puncture.
The Phlebotomy Technician facilitates the collection and transportation of laboratory specimens, and is often the patient’s only contact with the medical laboratory.
The need to assure quality and patient safety requires strict professional behavior for Phlebotomists.

For the online students All students who register before 4 PM on Friday will have access to their course by the following Monday. Students will then complete 100% of their coursework online. Once that is completed the student will then register for an in person skills lab for hands on training. See Skills Lab Calendar . For in person training those dates are to be announced.
That's entirely up to you, but most students finish the program in 7-8 weeks.
** ALL STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO FINISH ONLINE PORTION WITHIN 3 MONTHS OR TUITION MAY BE FORFEITED. **
The knowledge/lecture portion of the class is taught completely online and can be taken at the students own pace.
The online portion of the class is broken up into Chapters. The textbook has 14 chapters and I have broken it down for testing. For example, Chapters 1, 2, and 3 will be testing together, followed by chapters 4, and 5 together. A complete break down is reviewed once you join the course. To be able to stay on track Most students prefer to attempt one Exam per week. Once the 6 exams are completed then their are practice exams to prepare you for the Notional Exam. I take the three highest scores all of these 6 exams for your transcript. If doing in person training the exam is scheduled on the first day of the week that we choose to meet on. This will be discussed further.
The entire knowledge/lecture portion is 15 hours total from start to finish, however students are strongly encouraged to take their time through these chapters.
Practice Exams are limited to 1 hour per attempt to mirror the conditions of the National Exam.
Once the online portion of the class is completed students are required to attend a 3-Day in person Skills Lab or these will occur while in the in person training.
BOTH!
THIS CLASS IS BROKEN UP INTO 2 PARTS MAKING IT A HYBRID COURSE.
1. The foundation of students' training will be built 100% ONLINE and can be taken completely at the speed of the student.
2. Once the student has completed the online portion they are eligible to attend an in-person skills lab (offered several times a year) where they will learn the hands-on skills required for phlebotomists as well as complete all necessary requirements of the NHA and sit for National Boards on site! (special at-home tests available)
Yes! All students who successfully complete this course can potentially earn up to 3 certifications!
The National Certification that you will earn through our course and the NHA will enable you to work as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician in any state in the nation. Some states and employers require that Phlebotomists also hold a STATE certification. This is not yet required in Louisiana, but there are some benefits from holding a state license as well as a national license.
THIS IS IS COMPLETLY OPTIONAL!
There are no extra requirements, this is simply extra paperwork and fees.
Benefits of holding a LA License:
1. $2 more an hour if the employer recognizes it
2. This is NOT Mandatory for a traveling phlebotomist
3. More licenses to list on resume and impress potential employers
Total Cost for LA License: approximately = $121.25
•License Fee: $40
•Criminal Background Check: $46.25
•Finger print cards $20 or free
•Notary fee ~ $15
This process will be covered during Skills Lab for all students who are interested in applying.

The online portion of the course serves as a text book replacement so NO a book is NOT required!
For those of us who prefer to have a text book you may purchase one here. Or can come by our school and check one out with enrolled in our course. All textbooks must be returned during the skills lab or you will not be allowed to take your National Exam.
As of Jun 29, 2021, the average annual pay for a Certified Phlebotomy Technician in Louisiana is $30,973 an year, according to ZipRecruiter.
Just in case you need a simple salary calculator, that works out to be approximately $14.89 an hour.
Most local employers that are known to Stick It Phlebotomy average $10 - $14 / hour depending on where they work:
This happens often, where a student may have completed another Phlebotomy program and simply need to renew their license or possibly worked in the field unlicensed (before licenses were necessary) and need to earn certification.
All students must complete the online portion of the class as we will need to generate a transcript to submit to the board, however if a student is able to produce a signed letter from a laboratory supervisor attesting that the student has received the appropriate amount of vein/finger punctures the student may be able to forgo skills lab training and enjoy a discounted cost of tuition.
** All students choosing this option MUST be approved by Stick It Phlebotomy prior to National Board Testing. Students may purchase the "expedited tuition" and submit their letters for approval. If denied the student will be required to attend an in-person skills lab training event to acquire the appropriate amount of sticks.**
